Chief Executive Officer of defunct Menzgold Nana Appiah Mensah aka NAM 1 was to appear in court today, Tuesday, September 27, 2022.

Even though he went to the court premises, he did not enter the court room.

The case adjourned due to the absence of the Presiding Judge.

His lawyer and aide were given next sitting date by the Clerk.

Nam 1 arrived in court with an escort by heavily armed police personnel.

He waited patiently in his SUV awaiting his case to be called until the case was adjourned due to the presiding judge’s absence.

Nana Appiah Mensah was put before court for defrauding by false pretences, abetment to defraud by false pretences, carrying deposit business without license, abetment of sale of minerals without license, sale of minerals without license, abetment of unlawful deposit-taking, unlawful deposit-taking and money laundering when his gold deposit firm, Menzgold was closed down for operating without license.

About 16,000 people had raised complaints to the police for making a GH₵1.68 million in investment after being convinced by Menzgold with a 10 per cent interest every month.

According to DSP Asare, who then was an ASP when the complaint was filed in 2018 said the investors said their money was locked up and that Nana Appiah Mensah and other managers of the company could not be found.

DSP Asare said although Menzgold was licensed to purchase gold, it was not licensed by the Minerals Commission to trade in gold because NAM had licensed Brew Marketing Consult to trade in gold.

Notwithstanding the lack of such a licence, he said, Menzgold went public after its incorporation and invited the public to deposit money for a fixed period with interest, on the pretext of gold purchasing.

He said further investigations revealed that the three accused persons were the directors and principal officers of Menzgold and Brew Marketing Consult.
