The Volta Regional Police Command has destroyed 600 fertilizer sacks filled with Indian hemp, estimated to be worth GH¢4.2 billion, following a court order after years of legal proceedings.

According to a police statement issued on Friday, the destruction exercise took place on Monday, November 17, 2025, at about 14:30 hours.

The exhibits were seized in 2022 in a case titled The Republic versus Yao Kwadwo @ Wallako and Two Others

, and were only destroyed after being tendered as evidence during the trial.

The 600 sacks contained a total of 47,530 kilogrammes of cannabis. The Ho Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Felix Datsumor Esq., authorised the destruction after concluding the case.

The burning took place at the Klefe dumping site in Ho at about 22:30 hours, under strict supervision and heavy security. Representatives present included Mr Moses Dzanfi, Circuit Court Registrar; Mr Joseph Opusomah, State Attorney; Mr Daniel John Pekyi, from the Narcotic Control Commission; and Mr Emmanuel Mensah Gbekor, from the Environmental Protection Authority.

The police noted that the exercise was carried out in the presence of the media, National Security officers and other stakeholders to ensure transparency.

The Volta Regional Police Command expressed appreciation to all partners supporting efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region, emphasising that such collaborations remain essential in the national fight against narcotics.
