Calm has restored at the Tamale Technical University following a demonstration by some students on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the Northern Regional Police Command has confirmed.

A statement issued by the police on Wednesday, September 17 says they received reports of the incident indicating that about 500 students have massed up at the princints of the administration block.

The officers were immediately dispatched to the scene, led by Superintendent Richard Lantei Odartey, to quell the unrest and maintain order when the protest escalated.

The protestors set fire to vehicle tyres at some spots on the campus, including the main entrance to the university from the direction of TAMASCO, close to the police post at Kpalsi, and directly in front of the administration block.

According to the statement, the protestors grew hostile upon seeing the peace enforcement officers, further exacerbating the issue.

Three police officers and three students got injured after the students hurled stones upon sighting the police. All six individuals are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

No damages were recorded on both the police and school’s facilities. Police succeeded in bringing the situation under control, and calm has since been restored to the campus.

Meanwhile, a temporary police deployment remains on-site as a precautionary measure to prevent any further disturbances.
