The District Chief Executive of Assin South, Jonathan Birikorang, is appealing to philanthropists and well-meaning Ghanaians to support the district by providing new infrastructure for Adankwaman Senior High School.

His call follows a downpour that ripped off the school’s roof on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, damaging a 6-unit classroom block, a boys’ dormitory, dining hall, and pavilions.

The DCE, in a telephone interview with OnuaOnline Wednesday, October 8, 2025, stated that the school’s architectural integrity is defective, necessitating new structures for the students.

He added that he, along with Assin Darmang traditional authorities, and the District Directorate of Education, is working to secure temporary accommodations for the continuing students who are expected back on campus on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

Mr. Birikorang noted that he and his team are compiling a report with visuals for the regional directorate of education to assess the situation and provide support. “Personally, I’ve made a report to the Regional Minister and the Regional Education Director.”

“We’re preparing a report with pictures for the region to determine the way forward. Given the extent of the damage, the regional and national authorities must intervene before the children return to school this Saturday; otherwise, it will be disastrous,” he stated.

“Considering the state of the building, it’s advisable that we construct a new one for the school. It’s an old structure, and repairs would be insufficient. We want to appeal to philanthropists, the national authorities, the Education Minister, and all stakeholders to come to our aid and provide a new building, as the current one is beyond repair,” Birikorang added.

He said they are exploring options to secure spaces in nearby churches to accommodate the students temporarily, while a permanent solution is sought to address the challenge.

The Deputy District Director of Education, Isaac Opoku Nkoom, on his part disclosed that the regional directorate has sent a team to assess the situation and determine the way forward.

“The Director-General of Education has asked the Regional Director to assess the situation and report back. The chiefs and the DCE are here, so we’ll convene a meeting to discuss the next steps,” he stated.
