Police have announced the arrest of a man seen in a viral video unleashing threats to attack delegates in the Assin Central constituency and prevent them from voting in the upcoming NPP presidential primary.

The police say the suspect, Ibrahim Iddrissu Shummah, has been kept in custody per a statement they released Thursday, October 26, 2023, to help with investigation.

The arrest of Shummah comes few hours after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the police have agreed on the roadmap for the presidential primary which comes off Saturday, November 4, 2023.

The party has asked the police to continue to exhibit their professionalism trademark without fear or favour during the exercise.

Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, Chairman of the presidential Elections Committee had charged the police to arrest anyone who will misconduct himself at the exercise.

“We are authorizing you to take absolute control of all the processes that you regulate during normal elections in this republic. We have made several guidelines which are a matter of common consent and we have worked out the dynamics in such a way that we are working together we are saying this to assure you that the regulations that the candidates have all signed are going to be the blueprint of the process, and anyone who disregards this should be dealt with and we want to establish that this country is a lawful nation.”

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare also assured the party that they will proved them the needed security once.they cooperate with them.
