The Queen Mothers Foundation has called for truce between the feuding factions in Bawku to set the grounds for resolution processes.

The Foundation says it regrets the ramifications of the renewed conflict that has drained the gains made in the past years when peace existed.

They have therefore called on the two factions involved in the disturbances to bury the hatchet for peace to prevail to save women and children who have become the vulnerable subjects in the circumstances.

They have also, “particularly advise the youth to refrain from acts of violence and not to allow themselves to be used as conduits to foment trouble. We also urge the traditional authorities to lead the processes of peace and reconciliation for the good of the people.”

In a February 23, 2023 release signed by its President, Nana Ama Serwaa Bonsu, the Foundation wants all stakeholders, ranging from the security agencies through the government to political parties to refrain from any acts that further escalate the ongoing impasse.

“We call on security agencies to endeavor to maintain law and order in the area, but in so doing, they must be cautious not to infringe on the human rights of the people. The government must also endeavour to discharge its responsibilities to ensure the resolution of the conflict.

“Furthermore, we admonish political parties to refrain from politicizing the conflict or stoking the fire for political expediency. Rather, they must work together to douse the fire and restore peace,” they entreated.

The Foundation reminded the media of its gatekeeping role in such situations to avoid publications and comments from people with hidden agendas that would fuel the already worsening situation.
