After blaming the government for shirking its responsibility of bringing closure to the Bawku conflict, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has appealed to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu Ababio, to expedite actions in bringing closure to the feud in the community.

He wants the Asantehene, after the government’s failure to address the real issues, settle the matter that has been left for him to mediate for a resolution.

He said on Ghana Tonight Thursday, January 18, 2024, that “there are underlying issues [and] instead of government addressing the issues boldly and dealing with them, they have shovelled it to His Majesty Otumfuo.

“So I want to use this platform to call on His Majesty Otumfuo to look into the matter and try and bring closure to the issues. Just being silent and not taking action as I can see being done by the government is not the solution to the problem. Sending more soldiers to Bawku is not the solution to the problem. But being frank and honest and dealing with the issues resolutely is what will bring closure to the situation,” he pleaded.

He also condemned the spread of the attacks amongst the feuding factions to other parts of the country.

“Some months ago, there were similar assaults in Ashaiman and so increasingly, it is getting outside Bawku and then citizens of Bawku in different parts of the country attacking one another,” he told host, Alfred Nene Akrofi Ocansey.

The Bawku Central lawmaker, appealed to “all sides to stop what they are doing. This attempt to begin to attack one another outside Bawku in Bolgatanga, in Accra, Walewale, on the roads, Tamale etc, Zebilla, Binduri, all those districts around us; it’ll not help so I’m appealing to everybody to cease those attacks and urge government to be firm and resolve the issues in Bawku.”
