“Do we have DCE in this area? Do we have Regional minister in this area? Do we have Lands Commission in this area? Apenaman, do we have Forestry Commission here? I plead with all Ghanaians that we are doing ourselves a disservice as well as the future generation.

“There is a political party [NDC] that has pledged to support galamsey when it assumes power and that political party is a nation wrecker.

“There is another [NPP] that says it has put the presidency on the line and yet the menace still continues. What have they done about it? It was a mere lip service,” the above were statements made by Rev. Prof. Paul Frimpong Manso, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, after the Christian Ecumenical bodies in the country visited a galamsey site in the Eastern Region and prayed for illegal mining to stop.

Broadcaster Blessed Godsbrain Smart says the Rev. Minister’s comments following their visit made the clergy’s prayers “useless, bogus and excuse my language ‘stupid’.”

Accoridng to Captain Smart, there are people entrusted with care of the environment who are supposed to ensure Ghana’s environment is protected. However, sitting aloof for the harm to be caused without any punishment meted out to the known culprits but to pray for them to change is of no sense.

He says if the clergy know the crimes are ongoing under the watch of some people, they should advocate for the arrest of such persons rather than praying over something that doesn’t need prayers to fix.

Meanwhile, Rev. Frimpong Manso had added that people reject any politician that hasn’t shown any commitment towards the fight against the menace.

“People should reject any politician that has galamsey ongoing in his area. Any party that tolerates this galamsey should be rejected. Party Chairmen, Secretary, party sponsors, you’re all a disgrace to the nation.

“We should think about the people. We should think about posterity. My heart is burning. We should change and the, corruption, almighty corruption. Politicians we are tired of you. The media, we are tired of you too. It also applies to us all; the church, pastors, congregation, we should change and repent and have a different attitude and make Ghana better for the next generation,” he maintained.
