The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has expressed his resolve to tackling misinformation and disinformation in the country.
He has expressed his resolve to putting up measures to sanitise the media space by curbing misinformation and disinformation in the country.
In a post he made on his Facebook moments after his ministerial approval by Parliament, he accused the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) as being hurt by his nomination.
“It is clear to me that the NPP is so hurt by my nomination as Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations and would stop at nothing to fight it,” he posted.
The Ningo Prampram lawmaker further alleged that the minority caucus had attempted to mobilise members of the NDC caucus to even vote against him.
His post was in response to photos circulated on social media suggesting that he was chatting on WhatsApp during one of the Appointments Committee’s sittings, with another image he has branded as “FAKE”, showing him watching what appears to be a nude content on his phone.
He accused the NPP of circulating fake images with misleading narrations to tarnish his reputation. “They have resorted to a smear campaign and cheap lies with fake photos.”
This, is what he says would propel his course to combating misinformation as Minister in charge of the sector.
“I can assure them that the days of misinformation and cheap fabricated lies are coming to an end. The Ministry would tighten regulations on such illegal conducts of misinformation and disinformation in the coming weeks and sanitise our media space.”
