Former board chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA) Seth Boyoyo has criticised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for failing to publish the names of players selected for the Ghana U-15 boys’ team participating in the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Azerbaijan.
In a write-up titled “Once Again, GFA Hides Names – Who Are the U-15 Boys in Azerbaijan?”, Boyoyo questioned why the team departed Ghana without the association disclosing the players’ names, clubs or academies.
The team left Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday, October 21, but according to Boyoyo, the GFA’s announcement did not include a squad list, prompting questions about transparency in the selection of the young players.
He argued that the omission was particularly concerning given the association’s reported months of scouting and screening across the country.
“If you screened for months across the country as you claimed, why are you afraid to tell us where you found them?” he asked.
Boyoyo further questioned why the GFA publishes squad lists for the senior national teams, including the Black Stars and Black Queens, but has not done the same for the U-15 boys.
He said disclosing the players’ clubs and academies would help recognise the contributions of grassroots coaches and youth football institutions in developing young talents.
He also raised concerns about how the players’ progress could be tracked and their ages verified if their identities and dates of birth remained undisclosed.
Describing the situation as a failure of transparency, Boyoyo called on the GFA’s Technical Directorate to provide clear information about the selection process.
He has urged the association to publish the full list of the 14 players, their dates of birth and clubs or academies, the names of the technical team, and the criteria and centres used for the reported months of screening.
Boyoyo warned that failure to release the information could deepen public suspicion about the management of Ghana’s juvenile national teams.
“National teams belong to the nation – not to individuals at the GFA,” he stated, calling on the association to publish the names immediately.
