Captain Smart has alleged some ministers now import water from overseas due to the impact of galamsey on Ghana’s water.
Chemicals such as cyanide, mercury and others used by illegal miners to extract gold has polluted the water bodies to the extent that, the Ghana Water Company Ltd. Say they use ten times the chemicals usually applied to purify the water for domestic usage.
Also, the Company has said they able to purify only 40 per cent of water they treat for the public due to the intensity of the chemicals.
Speaking on Onua TV/FM’s Maakye Monday,October 3, 2022, Captain Smart, the host noted Delta and British Airlines now deliver water for some ministers in Ghana due to the impact of galamsey on Ghana’s water.
He added some even import pizza from South London.
Captain Smart was speaking about the devastating effect of galamsey on Ghana’s environment.
