The Social Secuirty and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has reiterated its call to the general public to undertake its Self Employed Enrolment Drive (SEED) specially designed for people doing their private businesses.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a training organised for journalists, Director of Public Affairs for SSNIT, Charles Akwei Garshong, said many self employed persons enrolling on the Trust will reduce old age poverty.

According to him, old age and permanent invalidity are two inevitable conditions of life, the latter which can occur at any point in time.

“The Social Security and National Insurance Trust has embarked on a programme to encourage all self employed workers to sign up and insure their income so in the future they can have some income replacement when they cannot work again due to old age or permanent invalidity. And to do so they just have to register, once they register they don’t need to come to the SSNIT office to pay on monthly basis. They can pay through mobile money platform, that is very convenient for everyone,” he explained in detail.

He proferred an alternative which interested persons can adopt to access the service.

“If they don’t like that one then they can use their debit card by going to the SSNIT portal and make those payments. And for those who want to come to the office , it is still open and they can do so,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mr. Garshong indicated further that “we will also be out there, we’ve set some tents out there so if you see those tents with the SSNIT team you can make your payment at the place but we encourage people to go with the electronic payment platforms, either the mobile money or the SSNIT portal with their debit card and make payment.”
