The Black Starlets painfully exited the ongoing CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after losing the drawing of lots with Algeria.

The two nations had tied on points and goal difference with head-to-head not applicable as they drew in their group game.

Black Starlets held to draw by Algeria despite 2-0 first-half lead

After a 3-1 win over South Africa in their final Group D game, the Starlets hoped to sail through.

However, Senegal’s 2-1 win over Algeria meant that Ghana would have to fight for that second slot with the North Africans.

Unfortunately, it got down to drawing of lots, which went the way of Algeria.

Ghana will now seek one of the two slots for the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.

The Black Starlets will face their former coach, Laryea Kingston, who handles Uganda’s U-17 team.

The East African side placed third in Group B on four points.

Ethiopia and Mozambique will also battle for the other slot.

Those two matches will be played on Saturday, May 23.
