The Black Starlets will have to win their final group game against South Africa at all cost on Wednesday in order to stand a chance of booking a place at the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
This is because the Starlets lost 1-0 in their second Group D game against Senegal at the ongoing U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
After a goalless first half, Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum’s side succumbed to an Ibrahima Dione goal in the 58th minute.
Ghana’s attempts to win Sunday’s game after their opening 2-2 draw against Algeria grew frustrating for the team.
The video assistant referee (VAR) disallowed Eric Gyamfi’s goal for impeding the Senegalese goalkeeper while the two-time champions missed a penalty.
Ghana are currently languishing bottom of the group with just a point and will fight for all the points against a South African side that lost earlier in the day 2-0 to Algeria.
They won their first game against Senegal.
