A suspected armed robber has been killed following a robbery attack on a mobile money vendor at Lashibi, in Accra.
According to a press release signed by Head of Public Affairs, Chief Superintendent, Juliana Obeng, the incident occurred on July 3, 2026, when two armed men on a motorbike allegedly attacked the vendor as he drove home from work with GH₵140,000 in cash.
From preliminary investigations, the suspects fired at the victim’s vehicle, damaging the right rear tyre and front windscreen.
The statement indicated that after snatching the cash, the suspects attempted to flee but were confronted by the complainant.
“After the suspects had snatched the complainant’s bag containing GH₵140,000.00 and were attempting to escape on their motorbike, the complainant fired at them, and one of the suspects died at the scene,” the police stated.
The second suspect however fled the scene and abandoned the stolen cash.
Police said the bag containing the GH₵140,000 was subsequently recovered, while the complainant “did not sustain any injuries” during the incident.

A search on the deceased suspect later led to the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle, two magazines loaded with 55 rounds of ammunition, an additional 11 rounds of live ammunition, GH₵3,000 in cash, a Samsung mobile phone and an identification card bearing the name Innocent Elemuwa Akachukeu, aged 46.
Also, investigators recovered five spent AK-47 shells and two spent pistol shells from the scene.

The body of the deceased suspect has since been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation, autopsy and identification, while the Accra Regional Police Command has taken over investigations.
The Ghana Police Service says efforts are underway to arrest the accomplice on the run and are appealing to the general public for assistance.
“The Accra Regional Police Command assures the public of its commitment to combating violent crime and urges anyone with information that may assist in the arrest of the fleeing suspect to report to the nearest Police Station or contact the Police through the emergency numbers 18555 or 191,” the statement added.
