A five-bedroom apartment has been razed down by fire at Praso in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa district of the Central region.

Despite recording no casualty in the inferno, items running into hundreds of thousands of Cedis have been destroyed completely. The items including gold bars, mattresses, air conditioners, fridges, and clothes were all ravaged by the heavy inferno including huge sums of monies, both in Ghana Cedis and Euros.

The victim, Afia Kissiwaa, wallowing in a stream of lamentation, explained to Onua News that the explosions of the fire woke her up.

She said all attempt to salvage some of her belongings proved futile and now her future and that of her family hang in balance.

“I was asleep and saw the entire place in flames. My entire curtain was burning so I forced to open the trapdoor and then the first and second door. There the fire had become serious and I couldn’t open the door so I asked God “Lord, so are you going to watch me burn?” I have lost a lot of money. GHC40,000, and 50-euro notes of 60 pieces (3,000 euros), and someone gave me GHC5,000 yesterday, aside from the GHC6,700 I was going to the market with, and my gold have all vanished,” she narrated in tears.

Although the cause of the fire is yet to be known, some residents believe it is as a result of unstable electricity power that has recently struck the Twifo Atti-Morkwa district.

It took the intervention of the personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service to bring the fire under control.

However, the District Safety Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Michael Adiaba, assured the public of letting them know the cause of the inferno after conducting their investigations.

He therefore urged the general public to adhere to simple basic fire instructions to avoid fire disaster.

“Before putting up a structure like a building, you need to consult the EPA, Town and Country Planning or the Ghana National Fire Service to check it for you. Also, the chiefs and surveyors who sell the lands to people should also ensure they don’t sell lands at waterlogged areas to people during the dry season so that they don’t build and get problems during the dry season.  Also ensure you have road network wherever you build so that the ambulance, fire and police services can come to your rescue during emergencies,” he advised.
