The Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has condoled with the families of those who lost their lives in the stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, November 13, 2025, she stated, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic stampede that occurred during yesterday’s military screening exercise.”

The Vice President extended her “heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones” and wished “the injured a swift and full recovery”.

A stampede occurred at the El-Wak Stadium on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, during a recruitment exercise by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), resulting in six fatalities. The incident also left 12 people in critical condition and 10 others injured, totaling 28 casualties.

The injured were taken to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment, with five currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The GAF has since expressed deep regret about the incident in a statement it issued.

Preliminary investigations, according to the GAF, indicated that the stampede was triggered by an unexpected surge of applicants who breached security protocols and rushed to the gate around 06:20 hours ahead of the scheduled screening.

The Vice President has urged the public to keep the bereaved families in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. She also called on state agencies to ensure the injured receive proper care.

In her statement, she added, “at this time, I urge all of us to keep the affected families in our thoughts and prayers. As the relevant state agencies respond to the incident, let us stand together and support one another through this difficult moment.”
