Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has admonished the senior national team, Black Stars, to give their best for the nation as they open their 2026 World Cup campaign.
The Black Stars will be playing Panama in their first group match in Toronto, the capital of the Ontario province in Canada.
According to the Vice President, the entire nation is giving them their unflinching support, irrespective of the grounds they are playing.
The Vice President delivered the message when she led a delegation of high-profile Ghanaians to visit the team’s camp in Toronto, Canada, ahead of Ghana’s opening match against Panama in the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament.
“Ghana is rooting for you, regardless of where you are, whether in the diaspora, on farms, or at home. The whole country is behind you,” she told the players.
She told the team to go beyond expectations and push beyond their current achievements as they begin their fifth campaign at the world’s biggest stage in football.
“We know you are doing well, and we know you will excel. I want you to go even higher. Every mother will want their child to be the best they can be and even excel when they think they have reached their goal. So we are here to encourage you to do more,” she said.
Veep Opoku-Agyemang further highlighted the need for the Stars to prioritise teamwork as they go into the game, stressing the importance of cooperation in achieving targets beyond expectations.
“You heard about the term group work, and I think that is part of the cooperation in sports. Regardless of what your strength is, you become even stronger when you play with somebody else. If in the process, you make someone else even stronger, we succeed even more,” she added.
Ghana and Panama will play today, Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 11 p.m. GMT.
