Presidential candidate for the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, has appealed to President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to assent the Anti-LGBTQ+ bill to become law.

Speaking to the media after the APC’s conference in Kumasi to elect a presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, Hassan Ayariga underscored the need for President’s endorsement to enact the legislation. “We want the President to walk his talk by appending his signature to the bill to enable it to come in to force,” he stated.

The All People’s Congress has acclaimed Hassan Ayariga as the presidential candidate for the 2024 elections and also as the National Chairman of the party at its 3rd Annual National conference in Kumasi.

Accepting the task, he emphasised the need for the party to unite towards winning the 2024 general elections so as to salvage Ghanaians from the economic mismanagement by both the NPP and NDC.  He said the APC is the third force Ghanaians have been yearning for.

The conference gathered all 275 constituency delegates to adopt reforms of the party and elected new national executives and the presidential candidate to lead the party into the 2024 polls.

The founder and newly acclaimed presidential candidate and National Chairman of the APC, Hassan Ayariga appealed to Ghanaians to do away with the NPP and NDC, who have not been able to manage the country well despite the opportunities they have been given over the years.

He said the APC is coming strongly as the Third Force to win the heart of Ghanaians.

He acknowledged the complaints of Ghanaians on the challenges facing the country, which he reiterated his commitment towards transforming the country to be a better place for its citizenry.

He expressed gratitude to the Members of Parliament (MPs) for their instrumental role in ensuring the bill’s passage. “I want to thank our Honourable MPs who played a pivotal role in passing this bill,” he remarked.

Hassan Ayariga also highlighted the unity among the MPs during the legislative process, noting, “the overwhelming majority from both sides of the house have endorsed this bill.”

The bill aims to uphold human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values, prohibiting LGBTQ+ activities and its associated advocacy, promotion, and funding. Offenders face imprisonment, with individuals involved in promotion or sponsorship facing steeper penalties.

The bill now awaits presidential assent to be enacted into law. He appealed to President Akufo-Addo to assent to the bill to become law in the country.

“President Akufo-Addo should not waste our time on the bill and sign the bill into law. Ghanaians will not allow him to change our traditions,” he said.
