Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has expressed deep concern over the GH¢70,000 bribery allegation against Deputy Minority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei, over the vetting of Supreme Court justices and two ministerial nominees.
The founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says if such practices are happening in Parliament, then Ghana should brace itself for chaos.
In an exclusive interview on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, conducted in his house on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said the NPP was not like that in the past.
“I am very much concerned because the party was not like that before. It’s their responsibility now to trace where the letter came from,” he told host, JB.
The Statesman and former Ambassador questioned why the Asokwa MP did not defend herself initially after the allegation surfaced, and rather allowing someone else to do so on her behalf.
“What surprises me was that, before she came out to speak, a gentleman came out to speak. I don’t know him, [Jerry Ahmed, Weija Gbawe MP], he came to talk on behalf of the lady, which I didn’t understand,” he stated.
According to him, any leader accused of such misconduct should face the public personally.
“Why? If I had been accused of something, I’ll come out myself and face the press on the issue,” he stressed.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe warned that the development poses a serious threat to Ghana’s democracy if lawmakers who make laws are engaged in bribery.
“So this particular problem now is a serious problem. If this is happening in the lawmaker’s hall, people who make laws for us, if they are doing this, then we are doomed as a nation,” he said.
His comments come on the back of the GH¢70,000 bribery allegation hanging over the Deputy Minority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei, who is also the Member of Parliament for Asokwa.
She is accused in a letter circulating in Parliament of taking money to influence the vetting of Supreme Court justices and two ministerial nominees.
While her colleague, Jerry Ahmed, MP for Weija-Gbawe, rushed to publicly defend her before she herself spoke, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe says the focus should be on tracing the source of that letter.
Meanwhile, the MP has come out to vehemently deny knowledge of the said letter.
