Member of Parliament for Zebilla East in the Upper East region, Cletus Apul Avoka, has slammed the Nanton lawmaker for comments he made regarding an accident he had on his way to Parliament last Friday.
The MP, in a hurry to get himself counted to get some three revenue bills passed disregarded traffic regulations and drove on “top speed” and got his vehicle crashed.
Mohammed Hardi Tufeiru, who is also a deputy minister of Agriculture instead of attending the hospital for medical attention rushed to Parliament with his injuries and clothes stained in blood to get the bills passed.
Making his inaugural comments few days after the incident, the Nanton MP said his life was less important compared to the bill which was to be approved.

Reacting to the issue on Ghana Tonight on TV3 Monday, April 3, 2023, Cletus Avoka said the MP’s statement lacked prudence since corpses don’t get counted in Parliament.
“We don’t take decisions based on dead bodies. I don’t think that is the proper way to go about things. He should have regretted that. It was wishful thinking that “let me drive very fast I can still make it”, it was hope against hope and unfortunately that incident, we thank God for his life anyway.
“This should tell us that we must programme better. The Executive must be more responsive, Parliament itself must be more responsive. And if there should be something that we may not have time to do due diligence, we must defer it so that the executive will learn a lesson,” he advised.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tufeiru indicated he was driving on top speed against traffic regulations, the reason the accident occurred.
