Ghana’s election management body, the Electoral Commission (EC) has disclosed that as of 8:00am Sunday, December 08, 2024, it had not received any results at the National Collation Centre.
The Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission, Benjamin Bannor-Bioh, disclosed this to the media at a press briefing at the EC’s Collation Centre.
“For the information of the general public, as we speak, no results have been received at the National Collation Centre. And I repeat, no results have been received at the National Collation Centre,” Bano-Bioh told the media.
He noted the results were being sent to the regional centres and were yet to receive same for publication at the national level.
He blames leadership of the two main political parties –National Democratic Congress (NPP) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) for causing the delay by asking their supporters to mass up at the collation centres.
Confusion rocked certain parts of the collation centres across the country where staff of the EC were attacked, with some election materials destroyed, including ballots boxes, ballot papers and Biometric Verification Devices.
According to the Commission, only two agents per candidate are allowed at the constituency and Regional Collation Centres. Amassing at Collation Centres and attacking election officials are a violation of the law.
The Commission charges political parties and their leaders to allow its staff perform their duties to ensure timely declaration of the final results.
“The Commission, however, assures the public that as the Commission receives the results, region by region, they will be published,” Mr. Bannor-Bio added.
