Blessed Godsbrain Smart, host of Maakye on Onua TV/FM is asking members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when they will allow Ghana to also be in power.

The broadcaster says countries like the United States and the UK have their countries at heart, the reason the UK has had change of Prime Ministers in a state of six months.

The change of those at the hem of power per se does not signify love for the country according to Captain Smart, but rather, the realisation that they can’t take the nation to where it’s supposed to and pave way for others to take over.

However, in the case of Ghana, because only NPP and NDC have been going on a musical chairs with power, the interest of the state is always in opposition.

His question comes on the back of efforts being adopted to retain Ken Ofori-Atta, the Finance minister despite calls from all quarters to either get him sacked or resigned.

Some 80 Parliamentarians from the Majority caucus demanded the minister to resign or be fired by the president for his poor performance that has sent the state into a ditch.

But, after meeting the President, the MPs have rescinded their decision on the plea that Mr. Ofori-Atta, the Finance minister who is Akufo-Addo’s cousin be maintained to complete Ghana’s negotiations with the IMF for a bailout, whilst he finishes the preparation of the 2023 budget statement and financial policy of the government as well.

Speaking Friday, November 11, 2022, on Maakye, Captain Smart said just as other countries think of the interest of their states, Ghana should also enjoy power to ensure the parochial interest of individuals are not triumphed over that of the state.

“We have Minority NDC, Majority NPP and they change their positions. When are we going to have Ghana in power? It is either NPP or NDC. When is is going to be Ghana? In America, there are politicians but the country is always in power. In UK, they have been changing Prime Ministers for the last six months. When you go to Australia and Austria, they’ve been changing their ministers because they want what is good for their country. But in Ghana, the NPP have written to the MPs not to partake in the vote of censure,” he questioned.
