Daniel Yaw Domelevo, a former Auditor-General, has explained why he once said he hoped the Supreme Court goes back to classes to learn the law again.

He said the comment stemmed from a notice written to him by the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, who said Mr. Domelevo lacked some basic knowledge on the law, the reason he held a certain position the way he did at the time.

According to Mr. Domelevo, when President Akufo-Addo asked him to go on leave, he wrote to him that it was because “my audits are disturbing you so you want me to stop and go on leave.”

He said in response, Asante Bediatuo told him he lacked knowledge on what the constitution says because he is not a lawyer.

“…and Nana Asante Bediatuo wrote to tell me that he can forgive me that I am not a lawyer and my appreciation of the law is not the best,” Mr. Domelevo told Captain Smart, host of Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, Monday, April 01, 2024.

He explained he said the Supreme Court should go and relearn the law after it ruled that the President erred in his directive, to make mockery of Bediatuo’s statement at the time.

“Fortunately, now the Supreme Court also does not understand the law so they are doing transposition. So, that is why in one of the TV interviews I said that I hope that the Supreme Court will go back to classes and go and learn the Law again. So, that is why I said that. Since you say I did not appreciate the Law, that is why I was making that statement and the Supreme Court has upheld my position so go and give further legal education to the Supreme Court,” he explained.

Daniel Yaw Domelevo is an accountant who currently serves as a Board member of the Global Fund. He is a former Auditor-General of Ghana. He was appointed by John Dramani Mahama in 2016 to replace Richard Quartei Quartey who had retired from public service.

But President Akufo-Addo ousted him from office citing some reasons which the Supreme Court later found unfounded.
