Youth activist and social commentator Ivan Innocent Kyei believes the former minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akoto Owusu Afriyie does not even deserve a reappointment as a minister not to dream of becoming president.

According to him, politics in the country has turned into a joke and just like many others, he is also “talking anyhow.”

His comments follow statements made by the former minister at his campaign launch where he said Agriculture should be the driving force of Ghana’s economy.

“I strongly believe, Agriculture, will lift Ghana out of poverty and assure us not only of food and nutrition security, but also, generate the necessary resources for the development of the other sectors including Industry, Health, Education and Infrastructure in the medium to long term,” Dr. Afriyie Akoto had said.

But speaking with Captain Smart on Maakye Tuesday, March 14, 2023, the youth activist said “nobody should take him (Owusu Afriyie) serious. He is just talking. They’re doing the politics anyhow so anybody can just talk. He doesn’t even deserve to be reappointed as minister for him to even think of wanting to be president.”

Ivan explained that the former minister was given the chance to handle the entire agric. sector for six years without making any significant impact. Therefore, for him to make those pronouncements because he now wants to be president is a joke Ghanaians shouldn’t attach any seriousness to.

So far, seven stalwarts of the NPP have made public their intentions to lead the party.
