An accident that occurred on June 19 on the Cape-Coast-Takoradi 19-year-old has claimed the life of a 19-year old.
The accident resulted from a tipper truck loaded with sand ramming into three stationary vehicles waiting to make u-turn.
Below is a detailed Police statement on the accident:
On 19/06/2025, about 12:48 hrs, suspect driver Bright Essel, aged 29, was in charge of Donfeng tipper truck with registration number GN 5710-19 loaded with sand from Bronyibima towards DVLA junction, Cape Coast.
On reaching a section of the road at the University of Cape Coast West Gate on the main Cape Coast-Takoradi-Accra Highway, he veered off his lane and ran over the kerb and in the process crashed into a stationary Nissan Sentra saloon car with registration number CR 1756-12 driven by suspect Kofi Kum aged 57, Honda CRV 4×4 with registration number CR 319-20 driven by suspect driver Anita Ansah aged 37 and Apsonic motor tricycle with registration number not yet known ridden by suspect rider George Ayensu Peters aged 26, who were observing traffic from the nearside section of the road to join the highway.

As a result, all the vehicles, together with the tricycle, got damaged. Suspect drivers Anita Ansah and Kofi Kum, together with the rider and victims Charles Ayensu Peters aged 47, Prince Anamag Baidoo, aged 27 and Wilfred Awusi Ninson, aged, 19, sustained injuries and were rushed to the University of Cape Coast hospital for treatment, but the 19-year-old Wilfred Awusi Ninson was pronounced dead by the medical officer on duty.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the same hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.
POLICE ACTION TAKEN:
The scene of accident was visited by Police. The scene was secured, and photographs were taken. All the accident vehicles, together with the motor tricycle, were removed from the scene and impounded at a safer place for DVLA testing.
Police enquiry was extended to the University of Cape Coast Hospital where the suspect drivers, together with victims, were met receiving treatment and in a stable condition.
Police medical report forms were issued to them for the medical officer’s endorsement.
Meanwhile, the tipper truck driver is in police custody assisting with the investigation case.
