Residents of Dorm-Memlesi, a Krobo community in the Eastern Region have registered their objection to the installation of prepaid metres in the area.
After almost a decade brawl between the power distribution company and the residents over utility tariff payment which has claimed some lives, the ECG are finally installing prepaid metres in the company of military men.
The development, has not gone down well with residents of Dorm-Memlesi, who lost some friends and family during the impasse.
Chief of the town, Nene Muala Bediako Baah has noted that: “We needed much education from ECG before they embark on the exercise but they didn’t.”
“My people have shown they’re not ready for the prepaid metres. We don’t want it. If my subjects don’t want it, I don’t want it too. Our community isn’t an industrial area where people are remunerated on a period basis to buy prepaid when it finish. Even if there are issues with the post paid, they should fix them for us,” he added.
Responding to a question posed by Akua Sarpomaa, who was engaging him in his palace on what they will do when the ECG arrive with their military escort, he said “when they come, the people will decide.”
