Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, the Deputy Director of IT and Elections for the opposition NDC says he is surprised the Electoral Commission (EC) is feigning ignorance of the court’s ruling on the Amenfi Central candidacy.

He says he personally sent the ruling to three persons at the Commission where receipt was acknowledged, and is therefore surprised that the EC says it has not gotten the ruling.

The comments come on the back of the EC’s claim that it is yet to receive a ruling from the court on the injunction placed on the NDC candidate for Amenfi Central which made them disqualify her from the contest.

Dr. Tanko-Computer, speaking on Ghana Tonight on TV3 Wednesday, November 13, 2024, said “I’m surprised Dr. Bossman Asare is saying this because I presented this to Dr. Bossman Asare 4:32 this afternoon, the ruling of the Sekondi High Court. The ruling has been served to the Electoral Commission through Dr. Bossman Asare, Mr. Tettey as well as Benjamin Bannor-Bio.

“I’ve given each of them copies. He received it, acknowledged receipt of what I shared, ‘thank you Doctor’, that was 17:42 so that was 5:42, the time he acknowledged it and thanked me for sharing with him so I’m surprised they say they have not seen this. They cannot feign ignorance of having received anything.”

Deputy Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, had told TV3’s Mawuena Egbeta that the Commission was yet to receive an official ruling to make them reconsider the earlier decision it took against Madam Cudjoe.

“And as we speak now we are waiting for a copy of the ruling. Once we receive that particular copy, then that means the permission has been granted. So once we receive a copy of the ruling, we’ll go by that. Currently we’ve just heard in the media, nothing concrete has come to us so once it comes to us, we’ll make sure we do the needful.

“On the basis of the law, –the judgement of the court –we used that to disqualify the candidate so if the same court in their wisdom they are saying that that injunction is no longer in force, it has been removed, then the Commission must do the needful,” he stressed.

He added that there is currently no time bound for Madam Cudjoe to be added to the ballot, indicating there is as much time as possible to fix the issue since the elections are at least over 20 days away.

“So far I can’t stick to a particular time frame because we still have almost about 24 more days to election so from the Commission’s stand point, I think we have enough quality time to be able to get this thing done,” he added.
