A 2024 flag bearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has shared his commiserations with victims of the Blue Line Arena fire incident at Adum, Kumasi.

Mr. Agyapong, a businessman himself, in a statement issued and signed by his spokesperson, Kwaku Amoh-Darteh, described the situation as “heartbreaking”.

He has assured the victims that they are not alone in their current predicament. “He wants you to know that you are not alone—we stand together as one nation.”

The former Assin Central lawmaker in the statement also bemoaned the recurrent nature of market fires in the country and asked all stakeholders, particularly the security agencies, to bring the menace to an end.

“Market fires have become too frequent in our country, and it is time to take real action. He calls on the Ghana National Fire Service, the Police, and all relevant state security agencies to work together to find lasting solutions. We need safer markets, better emergency access, and reliable fire prevention systems. Protecting our traders means protecting Ghana’s future,” portions of the statement indicated.

Ken Agyapong has also assured to personally visit the traders upon his arrival to Ghana to discuss the way forward, but “has dispatched a team to the affected area to assess the situation and provide support.”

On the Recent Fire Outbreak at Adum, Ashanti Region

Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong is deeply saddened by the fire outbreak that has destroyed several trading shops in Adum, the Central Business District of the Ashanti Region.

His heart goes out to all the hardworking traders and families who have lost their livelihoods in this tragic incident. At a time when people are striving to rebuild their businesses, such a setback is truly heartbreaking. He wants you to know that you are not alone—we stand together as one nation.

As a businessman, he understands the immense effort required to build a business—the long hours, the sacrifices, and the hopes for a better future. To see it all taken away in an instant is painful beyond words. He feels your pain and shares in your frustration.

Market fires have become too frequent in our country, and it is time to take real action. He calls on the Ghana National Fire Service, the Police, and all relevant state security agencies to work together to find lasting solutions. We need safer markets, better emergency access, and reliable fire prevention systems. Protecting our traders means protecting Ghana’s future.

Although he is currently out of the country, he has dispatched a team to the affected area to assess the situation and provide support. Upon his return, he will personally visit the market to meet with the victims and traders to discuss the way forward.

To the steadfast people of Kejetia, Adum, Dr. Mensah, and Roman Hill—do not lose hope. Ghana is strong because of its people, and together, we will rebuild. Let us unite, support one another, and work to prevent such tragedies in the future.
