Bibiani Goldstars defender Vincent Adae Atinga says one of the reasons some players seek opportunities abroad after playing a season or two in the Ghana Premier League is pressure from supporters.
According to him, this same supporters will describe players they see in the league after a season or two as too old, forcing his colleagues to seek opportunities elsewhere.
He said this has left the domestic league bereft of experienced players, contributing to the lack of interest among football lovers.
“When I started playing in the league, there were mature players in Hearts and Kotoko, for instance,” the two-time GPL winner observed in an interview on Agoro Fie on Onua TV on Wednesday, June 25.
“But now the inexperienced ones are plenty because our system is such a way that if you play three or four seasons, supporters say you are old.
” I am a victim of that.”
The combative defender said sometimes when they travel to a match venue, supporters will just be jeering that he is an old stock.
“But me they describe as old cannot be dribbled past by the young, so where is that coming from?” he wondered.
The former Hearts of Oak defender, therefore, advised supporters to refrain from that to help keep players in the league for long.
Aside Hearts and currently Goldstars, Atinga has played for Medeama SC and Ebusua Dwarfs in the Ghana Premier League.
