After weeks of uncertainty, journalists in the Ashanti region finally have a new leader.
The contentious chairmanship race has been settled in a decisive rerun election held today on Thursday, August 22, 2025.
An initial election on June 30 was controversially cancelled despite Kofi Adu Domfeh winning by a single vote, following allegations of electoral irregularities from other contestants.
The rerun, which was conducted under heightened scrutiny to ensure a transparent and flawless process, appears to have resolved the dispute conclusively.
Luv and Nhyira fm editor, Kofi Adu Domfeh secured a decisive victory in the rerun polling 20 out of the 31 total votes cast.
The win gives the new regional chairman a clear mandate to lead the region’s premier journalistic body for the next term.
“There is a new dawn for journalism and media practice here in the Ashanti region. I know a lot is expected of us but I’m declaring that we will never disappoint our colleague journalists and those who look up to quality journalism”, Domfeh reassured.

Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, President of the Ghana Journalists Association, urged the new executives to foster unity among the region’s journalists.
He emphasized, “this is not an individual’s victory, but a time for unity. We need everyone on board to work effectively.”
The newly elected Chairman is expected to focus on unifying the association, addressing the welfare of journalists in the region, and upholding media freedom and ethical standards in the Ashanti Region.
