The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has erected temporary structures for displaced victims of the Gbiniyiri conflict.

Beds and mattresses have also been distributed to the victims who will be housed in the temporary structures.

TV3’s Northern Regional correspondent, Christopher Amoako reports that more women and children from affected communities are seeking refuge at the Sawla police station.

Gender, Children and Social Protection Ministry through the Ghana School Feeding Programme distribute food to displaced victims of communal violence at Gbiniyiri

Savannah Regional Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding programme, Hajia Afusei Bawa expressed shocked at the number of displaced women and children after delivering food items to the displaced victims on behalf of the Gender Minister.

She called for a cease fire from both factions.

“The Gender Minister through the Social Welfare Protection decided to organize some hundreds of packs of food and some water to deliver to the victims of this unfortunate situation. She also promised that God willing tomorrow morning, first thing she will be here in Sawla to check on the victims.

“We also pray for calm and peace to prevail for the betterment of Savannah Region,’ she said in an interview with TV3, Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

The Inspector General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno assured that the situation is calm and security personnel are working to return the community to normalcy.

“Since I came, we have not heard any gunshot and all those things because the security personnel have actually taken the ground and making sure that life will return to normalcy.

“So, I can say that we are firmly on the ground. The police, military and other security services are working to make sure that things are well,” he said.

Five people were confirmed dead on Sunday (August 24, 2025) morning in a land dispute at Gbiniyiri, a farming community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.

Six others have sustained various injuries, with three in critical condition.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, was reportedly triggered by a disagreement over a parcel of land.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Sinkina Saaka confirmed the incident to TV3.
