Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Abla Dzifa Gomashie has disclosed that talks are ongoing with the Chinese Ambassador for possible collaboration to renovate the National theatre.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with TV3’s Naa Ashorkor, Thursday, September 11, 2025, the Minister noted that a paper work has been done with details outlined on what it takes to renovate the theatre.
She admitted that the infrastructure which was built in collaboration with the Chinese is now deteriorated.
The Minister is hopeful that ongoing conversations with the Chinese Ambassador will yield results for the renovation of the theatre “to the standard that we want.”
“The first Ambassador I met in this office was the Chinese Ambassador for this reason so he came here in my office (with respect to renovating the National Theatre).
“So I called him and put before him the fact that it is the image of China and Ghana relationship. This is what shows tangibly. He asked me to do the paper work on what does it entail to renovate or restore it to its past glory, which we have done.
“They haven’t said no and haven’t given me a solid yes, they are looking at it. He has to send it back to his country. I have had to start this communication on a clean slate with the Ambassador and I am very hopeful that in good time, we will get the response that we need. It is a very capital-intensive work that has to be done,” Dzifa Gomashie stated.
