The Tarkwa Circuit court, has remanded the twelve persons alleged to have been engaging in activities of illegal mining leading to the destruction some part of Takoradi Nsuta Railway Line.
The suspects, Lari Kwaku, 30 years Ali Asumah, 33 years Yindari Mombe, 19 years Dennis Adom, 29 yearsAlex Kofi Acquah, 27 years, Jonathan Agandor, 30 years Lambing Noyisi, 38 years Isaac Arhin, 33 years Nurudeen Kwabena, 22 years Kwame Simo, 27 years Jude Azum, 20 years Combat Daniel, 18 years are all residents of Akyem.
They have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime, undertaking mining operations without a license, and causing unlawful damage.

During court proceedings today, their pleas were not taken, as prosecution team prayed to the court to forward the case docket to the Attorney General for advice.
The presiding judge, therefore, remanded the accused persons into prison custody for two weeks. They are expected to reappear in court on October 21, 2025.
The arrest of the 12 individuals follows the circulation of a viral video that captured extensive illegal mining activities dangerously close to the railway tracks, as well as the assault of a staff member of the Ghana Railway Company.
Acting on the report, a joint police team made up of personnel from the Regional Operations Unit, Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), and the Formed Police Unit (FPU) was deployed to the area.

Upon arrival, the team discovered deep mining pits and trenches dug directly beneath sections of the railway line, leaving parts of the track hanging and unsupported.
Exhibits retrieved from the scene included three water pumping machines, while several chanfang machines used in the illegal mining operation were destroyed.
