Two tourists were injured when portions of the Amedzofe Canopy Walkway in the Ho West District of the Volta Region collapsed.

The facility has since been closed down.

The two are currently receiving treatments at a nearby hospital. Fortunately, no death was recorded.

Investigations into what led to the collapse of the portion is underway.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, has visited victims.

A statement signed by the Corporate Affairs Director of the GTA, Bright Asempa Tsadidey, said the visit was to express sympathy, offer reassurance, and demonstrate the Authority’s commitment to their wellbeing.

The statement said “the management of the facility said, no deaths were recorded, though some visitors sustained injuries”.

“GTA is deeply concerned about the incident and is closely monitoring the ongoing investigations being conducted by the relevant authorities. The Authority will communicate the findings and next steps once the investigations are completed”, it added.

The CEO extended sincere well-wishes to all affected individuals and their families, emphasizing that their safety remains paramount.

“Our thoughts are with every victim and every family affected by this unfortunate incident. Tourism must be safe and dependable, and we are committed to ensuring that all safety lapses — if any — are fully addressed. Your wellbeing matters to us,” she said.

As part of her visit, the CEO donated a cash amount and essential items to support the victims during their recovery.

“The GTA remains dedicated to strengthening safety standards across tourism attractions nationwide and will continue to work with all stakeholders to safeguard the integrity of Ghana’s tourism experience,” she stressed.
