The Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has ordered the temporary closure of the Kwame Danso District Court in the Bono East Region following a violent mob attack that disrupted proceedings, freed suspects and vandalised properties on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.
In a letter issued to the Bono East Regional Administrative Officer on Friday, December 12, the Chief Justice instructed that the court be shut down until further notice.
The notice described the directive as urgent and necessary to safeguard judicial officers, staff and litigants.
“Following the occurrences at the Kwame Danso District Court, I have been directed by His Lordship the Chief Justice to request you to close the Court temporarily from today, 12 December 2025, until further notice,” a correspondence from the Judicial Service said.
The attack by the irate youth on Wednesday, December 10 occurred at 10:30 am on Wednesday while the court was hearing The Republic v. Isaac Kwabena Mintah & Two Others, a case involving charges of unlawful damage, stealing and assault under the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The youth, numbering 100 besieged the court premises, attacked persons at the court and vandalized furniture, fans and other items.
The youth also forcibly took away two accused persons who were standing trial and assaulted the complainant in the case.
The youth later attacked two officers who were on duty at the Kwame Danso Police Headquarters and vandalized the police station.
According to a police statement, a reinforcement team from the Atebubu Division, together with a detachment of the Formed Police Units (FPUs) were deployed to the area to restore order.
The Bono East Regional Police Command has restored calm in the Sene West District but the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has ordered a shut down of the Kwame Danso Police Station and District Police Headquarters until further notice.
Officers have been reassigned to other parts of the region.
