After days of legal back-and-forth and a temporary halt to preparations, the Accra High Court has declared that the final funeral rites of Daddy Lumba must proceed as planned.

The decision came after the applicants seeking to halt the funeral failed to provide a required deposit of 2 million Ghana cedis as security for potential costs. This ruling ends days of legal uncertainty and allows preparations to resume in full.

Fans in Kumasi have reacted with a mix of relief and frustration.

“I traveled from Aburi for Saturday’s funeral only to hear it was halted this morning. I’m so relieved the court has allowed it to continue,” said die-hard fan Erica Nsiah in an interview with 3news.

Another fan, Georgina Appau, shared her readiness “We are prepared to start the funeral activities this evening and give our legend a peaceful rest.”

However, not all supporters are satisfied. Akosua Agyemang expressed disappointment with the scheduled date, saying, “Lumba deserves a more befitting funeral. Holding it tomorrow feels rushed. It’s as though some people just want to undermine his send-off.”

Some stakeholders within the creative arts industry also called for unity within the family to avoid conflicts that could overshadow the funeral.

Evans Kumi Wadewor, Acting Director of the Creative Arts Agency in the Middle Belt, urged the family should come together to protect the legacy and image of Daddy Lumba.

“There should be understanding among the family so they should come together and save Daddy Lumba’s image”.

With the legal obstacle now removed, organizers have swiftly resumed preparations. Mourners who were left in confusion by the earlier injunction say they are back on track to attend.

The ruling brings closure to a period of uncertainty and ensures that fans, friends, and the creative arts community can gather to pay their respects without further disruption.

Daddy Lumba’s funeral is set to take place at Heroes Park on December 13, as originally planned.
