Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani Goldstars SC have announced the appointment of Swiss national Markus Schmid Fritz as their new Head Coach.

Schmid takes over from Nana Yaw Amankwah, who has been acting as coach since the dismissal of Stephen Frimpong Manso.

The club said the new coach comes with “with deep experience at the highest levels of the game”.

He has previously worked as an assistant coach with Tottenham Hotspur, FC Basel, and the Austria national team before later serving as Head Coach of New Zealand national team.

More recently in Africa, Ghana to be precise, he played a key role in guiding Kotoku Royals to promotion into the Ghana Premier League.

A statement announcing Schmid Fritz’s announcement said it is the beginning of “an exciting new chapter focused on ambition, steady growth, and long-term success”.

“We’re glad to have you with us.”

The GPL champions have been without a substantive gaffer after parting ways with Frimpong Manso following a 2-0 home loss in the first leg of their CAF Champions League campaign.

Talks with former Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC coach Maxwell Konadu to take over broke down.

Goldstars are currently third on the log with 25 points, 3 points behind leaders Aduana FC.
