Leading goalscorer Samuel Atta Kumi was on target to take his tally to 12 as champions Bibiani Goldstars SC saw off Nations FC on Sunday.
It was a 2-1 victory for Goldstars to go back to the top of the Ghana Premier League.
The Miners’ skipper scored early in the first half at the Bibiani Dun’s Park before an own goal doubled their lead.
Atta Kumi’s Black Galaxies teammate and opposite number Razak Simpson halved the deficit after half-an-hour of play.
He beat Emmanuel Kobi in post after converting a penalty, giving his coach, Stephen Frimpong Manso, some hope of pulling the shocker in his return to Bibiani. Frimpong Manso had led Goldstars to their maiden trophy last season.
However, try as both sides did in the second half the score stayed the same.
The win comes vital for the champions as they regain top spot with 51 points, just one more than Medeama SC, who were held to a one-all draw at Bechem United.
Markus Schmid Fritz’s side travel to Dormaa for their next game against Aduana FC.
Nations FC, on the other hand, dropped to 13th but will seek to make amends when the host Basake Holy Stars in their Matchday 29 encounter.
