The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has called on the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) to take a central role in spearheading the nation’s industrialization agenda.

Speaking at the investiture of the newly elected AGI President and executive members in Accra, Debrah emphasised that the private sector remains the primary engine for economic growth. He challenged the association to move beyond traditional boundaries and champion innovative efforts that will position Ghana as a manufacturing hub in the sub-region.

Chief of Staff reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fostering a business-friendly environment. ‘‘Our goal is to ensure that the Ghanaian industrialist is equipped to compete globally. Government will continue to provide the supportive environment needed to turn our industrial dreams into reality. Government is therefore streamlining policies and regulations, provide infrastructure, enhancing energy, transport, and digital networks to support industrial growth’’, Debrah assured.

The new era of leadership of the AGI is led by Dr. Kofi Nsiah-Poku, a renowned pharmacist and industrialist.

During his investiture ceremony, Pharmacist Nsiah-Poku outlined a bold vision for inclusive industrial growth aimed at transforming Ghana’s economic landscape.

Dr. Nsiah-Poku highlighted a “complex landscape” of obstacles that AGI members face daily, specifically citing:

  • High Energy Costs:Which continue to drive up production overheads.
  • Credit Constraints:Limited access to affordable capital for expansion.
  • Trade Competitiveness:The struggle to compete with cheaper imports and expand into international markets.

Despite these pressures, the new President emphasised that these challenges are the catalyst for innovation. “Within these challenges lie immense opportunities for us to rethink our strategies and emerge stronger,” he stated.

Central to his administration’s agenda is the support of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). Dr. Nsiah-Poku noted that for the economy to truly thrive, industrial growth must be inclusive, ensuring that smaller players are not left behind.

To achieve this, he pledged to advocate for concessionary credit facilities specifically tailored for industry players and help improve production processes. Support SMEs and women entrepreneurs with capacity building.

By securing lower interest rates and more flexible repayment terms, the AGI aims to empower local manufacturers to scale up their operations and improve their market reach.
