The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a stern warning to aspirants contesting the Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries, cautioning them to conduct their campaigns with decency or risk severe sanctions, including possible withdrawal from the contest.

The warning was delivered at a stakeholders’ meeting in the constituency by the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC in charge of Operations, Mr. Mustapha Foyo Gbande.

Addressing delegates, constituency executives, and aspirants, Mr. Gbande emphasized the need for discipline, unity, and issue-based campaigning ahead of the primaries set for February 7, 2026.

“Campaign decently or get withdrawn from the contest. If you are a master of insults, then you can join the NPP,” Mr. Gbande cautioned.

He stressed that the NDC does not associate itself with the politics of insults and personal attacks, noting that discipline within the party would be enforced without fear or favour.

“The NDC is not a party known for insults, unlike the NPP. Discipline will work irrespective of persons,” he stated.

Mr. Gbande expressed concern over reports that supporters and surrogates of some aspirants had resorted to name-calling and abusive language on radio, television, and other public platforms in attempts to discredit opponents.

According to him, such conduct threatens party unity and undermines efforts to present a strong front ahead of the upcoming election.

“Any aspirant who, directly or indirectly through supporters or surrogates, is found engaging in insults will face sanctions,” he warned.

The Ayawaso East parliamentary seat became vacant following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament on January 4, 2026. The Electoral Commission (EC) has since scheduled March 3, 2026, for the conduct of a by-election to fill the vacant seat.

Against this backdrop, Mr. Gbande reminded party members that elections inevitably produce winners and losers, urging all aspirants and their supporters to rally behind the eventual winner in the collective interest of the party.

He also cautioned delegates against unethical practices, including secretly recording aspirants during visits or moving from one camp to another purely for financial inducements, describing such actions as hypocritical and unacceptable.

Among the aspirants contesting the primaries are Ghana’s Ambassador to the a federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed; Constituency Chairman, Mohammed Ramne; Dr. Yakubu Azindow, a lecturer based in Massachusetts, USA; Mohammed Abdul Salam; Najib Mohammed Sani; and Hajia Amina Adams, wife of the late Member of Parliament, Mac Nasser Manama Touré.

Mr. Gbande was accompanied at the meeting by the Deputy Director of Elections of the NDC, Mr. Mahdi Jibrel; the Greater Accra Zongo Caucus Coordinator, Smaila Ali Horoya; and other constituency executives.

In his concluding remarks, Mr. Gbande disclosed that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NDC would directly supervise the primaries to ensure a peaceful, fair, and transparent process.

He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to retaining the Ayawaso East seat in honour of the late Hon. Mac Nasser Manama Touré.

“Let no one bring disrepute to Nima and Ayawaso East through unacceptable behaviour in the name of primaries,” he urged.
