A group of agitated youth in Walewale took matters into their own hands on April 14, staging a protest that resulted in the forced removal of the West Mamprusi Municipal Coordinating Director, Justice Bayon from his office.
They subsequently locked the office to deny him access.
The demonstrators are citing a long list of grievances, centered primarily on what they describe as a persistent lack of accountability.
The atmosphere at the Municipal Assembly office remains calm and no security personnel are on grounds. The youth, visibly frustrated, stormed the premises this morning, requesting to see the Municipal Director however he was out of office as at then.
Their primary allegations against the Coordinating Director involve regular absenteeism, which they claim has left the office dormant for weeks at a time, they are also alleging that the Director’s unexplained delays in signing critical contract documents have brought development projects to a complete standstill.
One of the protest leaders stated that their patience has been exhausted, noting that the delays are not just administrative hurdles, but are actively hindering the economic growth of the municipality.
The group has now issued a direct appeal to President John Dramani Mahama. They are calling for the immediate removal of the Coordinating Director, arguing that the current leadership is failing to serve the best interests of the people of West Mamprusi.
For now, the office remains under lock with the youth vowing to keep up the pressure until they receive a formal response from the seat of government.
