In the early hours of Wednesday, April 22, 2026, around 9:00 a.m., residents along the Ahodwo through Daban to Dr. Asafo Adjei road experienced an outage as a result of a fault on the distribution line –feeder– serving the area.

The faults team of Ahinsan District were quickly dispatched to investigate the cause of outage and restore power to affected customers.

The team upon reaching the area successfully restored power to all customers except those around Cocoa Depot and Star Sawmill. The team then proceeded to the transformer serving these customers.

According to Ing. Kwaku Appiah, District Engineer for Ahinsan District, upon arriving at the transformer and trying to renew the fuse to restore power supply to affected customers, the team saw a python that had taken over the substation and preventing the faults team from going anywhere near the transformer.

After attempts by residents to capture the python proved futile, the python crawled beneath the substation and the faults team risked their lives by taking advantage of the short window to renew the fuse and restore power supply to affected customers.

The incident was reported to the Kumasi Zoo for their assistance to capture the python. Manager of the Kumasi Zoo, Dr. (Vet. Med.) Meyir Zeikah Yiryele, quickly dispatched his team to the site.

When the team from Kumasi Zoo got to the scene and started working to capture the python, they realized there were actually two pythons who had taken over the substation as their home and laid eggs. The team successfully captured both pythons on Wednesday evening at 9:00 p.m and retrieved their eggs.

Ing. George Amoah, ECG General Manager for Ashanti West Region, thanked the Regional Manager for Kumasi Zoo, Dr. (Vet. Med.) Meyir Zeikah Yiryele, and his team for their prompt intervention to save the situation.

Ing. Amoah advised customers to desist from engaging private electricians anytime they experience an outage and added that “Customers who experience any outage should contact our national contact center on 0302611611, report to the nearest District office, lodge a complaint on the ECG PowerApp or reach us via our social media handles @ECGghOfficial on Facebook, X, or instagram for prompt intervention.

He further advised customers to report all outages via ECG channels promptly or take advantage of ECG stakeholders WhatsApp platforms to report outages for prompt resolution.
