A 27-year-old man, Kwadwo Richmond, is currently on the run after allegedly killing his friend over twenty cedis in Asuboa in the Asante Akim South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
What began as a simple disagreement over GH¢20 ended up in tragedy.
The victim, identified as Eric, is reported to have travelled from Dampong to Asuboa to collect an outstanding balance after selling a refrigerator to the suspect’s mother.
According to residents, Eric had promised to give the suspect, Kwadwo Richmond, GH¢20 upon his return. But upon arrival, he reportedly had no money on him.
Eyewitnesses say Richmond insisted on receiving the money immediately, leading to a heated exchange between the two. Richmond grabbed a cutlass to attack Eric during the argument.
Sensing danger, Eric reportedly armed himself with a piece of wood in an attempt to defend himself. But the weapon proved no match.
He was struck during the attack and sustained a deep cut to his hand. In a desperate attempt to escape, he fled but collapsed moments later by the roadside.
He was rushed to the Juaso Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival due to excessive blood loss.
According to an eyewitness, Kwabena Ofori Atta, the deceased has a wife and four children.
“Now the family is left stranded. It’s very painful that something like this happened over just twenty cedis.”
Since the incident, the suspect has gone into hiding, with police launching a manhunt to track him down. Officers have already visited his residence as part of ongoing investigations.
The tragic death has left the Asuboa community shaken raising concerns over rising violence and the devastating consequences of unresolved conflict.
