Four persons have been burnt to death with one on admission after two vehicles collided and caught fire near Anyinasin Junction in the Abuakwa North municipality of the Eastern region.
The early Wednesday, May 6, 2026 accident involved a Hyundai Mighty truck with registration number GE 1913-16 and a Man Diesel trailer with GS 236-12 as its registration number.
The Hyundai Mighty truck, according to a statement issued by the Eastern regional public relations unit of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), was travelling from Asamankese towards Bunso, while the Man Diesel trailer was en route from Kumasi to Accra.
Eyewitnesses report indicate the Man Diesel trailer veered off its lane and collided with the oncoming Hyundai Mighty truck, forcing it into a nearby bush, triggering a fire outbreak which engulfed both vehicles.
The Bunso Fire Station led by ADO II Emmanuel Otam Annan, arrived at the scene few minutes after receiving a distress call and brought the fire under control. However, the four persons had already been burnt before the arrival of the fire personnel.
One female victim who was rescued by bystanders before the arrival of the fire personnel, according to the statement, is receiving treatment at the “Akyim Asafo Health Centre, while three occupants of the Man Diesel trailer escaped unhurt before it burst into flames.”
“The four (4) badly charred bodies in the Hyundai truck were recovered by firefighters and handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigation. The cause of the crash and subsequent fire remains under investigation,” the statement indicated.
The Service also thanked the Ghana Police Service for their support as well as the firefighters in helping curb the situation.
“The Ghana National Fire Service expresses sincere appreciation to the Ghana Police Service for their invaluable operational support and commends its firefighters for their swift response, courage, and professionalism in the face of challenging conditions, including the negative behaviour of sections of the crowd,” the statement added.
It also cautioned motorists to observe road traffic regulations and remain vigilant to avoid crashes.
“Motorists are strongly advised to exercise caution on the roads, strictly adhere to road safety regulations, and remain vigilant at all times to help prevent such fatal incidents.”
