The Ghana Education Service (GES) has suspended the salary of the teacher accused of engaging in an alleged sexual relationship with a student at Bole Senior High School, as efforts intensify to bring him to justice.

According to the Director-General of the GES, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, the teacher’s salary was halted through the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department after he allegedly absconded following the incident.

Addressing a news conference in Accra on July 1, Professor Davis said the GES acted swiftly by interdicting the teacher and referring the matter to the Ghana Police Service for investigation and arrest.

“Beyond the condemnation, we immediately interdicted the man because it is a serious matter. We asked the police to cause his arrest,” he said.

Professor Davis disclosed that the suspect is currently on the run, prompting the Service to suspend his salary while police continue efforts to apprehend him.

“Our understanding is that he has absconded, so we have proceeded to stop his salary, and we are depending on the police to apprehend him,” he stated.

The Director-General stressed that the GES intends to pursue both legal and administrative action against the teacher once he is arrested.

“We want to pursue legal action against him and also take him through our established code of conduct so that, at the end of the day, we apply the rules as stipulated in our code of conduct,” Professor Davis said.

He reiterated the Service’s commitment to protecting students and maintaining discipline within Ghana’s schools, warning that severe sanctions would be imposed if the allegations are substantiated.

“We will apply the toughest sanctions to serve as a deterrent to other teachers and to keep the school environment safe,” he added.
