The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has shut down the Elmina SSNIT Hotel in the Central Region for failing to meet the minimum requirements under Legislative Instrument 2239.
The enforcement exercise was carried out on Friday 14th August, 2026.
A notice of closure has therefore been mounted at the facility’s main entrance, reception and on the notice board.
The notice read in part, “The public is hereby informed that this facility has been closed down for failing to meet the minimum requirements provided under Legislative Instrument 2239.”
Speaking to 3news, at the hotel premises after the closure, the Central Regional Director of GTA, Mr. Charles Buabeng, said the facility failed to meet the required standards.
According to the GTA, the facility also has outstanding arrears of over one year.
Mr. Buabeng further directed Management of Elmina SSNIT Hotel to close down operations and urged the public not to patronize the hotel until all requirements are met.
He has also issued a strong warning to all hotel owners in the region to ensure their facilities meet the requirements to avoid closure.
Additionally, two hotels including one restaurant in the Cape Coast metropolis has also been shut down until further notice.
