The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has cautioned contractors working on road projects across the country against delivering substandard work.
He said government would not compromise on the quality of roads being constructed and would hold contractors to the standards agreed under their contracts.
The Minister gave the caution on Thursday, September 3, 2026, during an inspection of the 37-kilometre Wa–Bulenga–Yaala Road in the Upper West Region.
Mr Agbodza commended Astee Construction Limited, the contractor executing the project, for making significant progress ahead of schedule. However, he urged the company to accelerate work while maintaining the required quality standards.
“We are happy that you are ahead of schedule. We think that you can work a bit faster and quality work. We will not accept any substandard work. We don’t pay you to do shoddy work,” he stated.
“Once it is an improvement of what is in the book, we are good to go,” the Minister added.
The inspection comes five months after heavy rains destroyed the Yaala Bridge in the Wa East Constituency, cutting off several communities from Wa, the Upper West Regional capital.
In response to the situation, contractors working on the Wa–Bulenga–Yaala stretch have constructed a 4-by-4 metre diameter culvert designed to contain flash waters and protect the road under construction.
Astee Construction Limited assured the Minister that it would complete the project within the agreed schedule.
The inspection revealed that about 65 percent of the project has already been completed, despite the contract being awarded in January 2026 with a scheduled completion date of 2028.
