Medeama SC Head Coach Ibrahim Tanko says his side are ready to face one of Africa’s best clubs, TP Mazembe, in the CAF Champions League.
The Yellow and Mauves will host the Congolese giants on Sunday in the first leg of the preliminary round, in what will be a historic occasion for Medeama and the people of Tarkwa.
Tanko believes his team has enjoyed a productive pre-season and is confident the preparations have put the players in the right condition for the continental challenge.
“We have had a good pre-season and we are ready to battle TP Mazembe,” Tanko said.
Medeama spent several weeks in camp in Ivory Coast as part of their preparations for the new season.
The team then participated in the Nsenkyire Cup before securing victory in the Champion of Champions against Nations FC.
The coach believes the combination of their intensive preparations and competitive matches has helped the team build the necessary fitness, confidence and understanding ahead of their clash with Mazembe.
Having already tested themselves against quality opposition during the pre-season, Tanko is now looking forward to seeing his players rise to the occasion against one of the most decorated clubs on the continent.
TP Mazembe, who have a rich history in African club football, present a major challenge for Medeama, but Tanko insists his team will not be intimidated.
Medeama will be hoping to make the most of home advantage and take a positive result into the second leg as they begin their quest to advance in Africa’s premier club competition.
Sunday’s encounter will also be a landmark moment for Tarkwa, with the city hosting a CAF inter-club competition for the first time.
For Tanko and his players, the objective is clear: to put their pre-season preparations to the test and give Medeama a strong start against the Congolese giants.
