It was another Sunday for the GMB ladies to take us through Ghana’s rich cultural heritage as they brought the rhythms, dances and musical traditions of their respective regions to life.
The Week Six edition of Ghana’s Most Beautiful (GMB), themed “Rhythms of Our Land,” saw the contestants showcase traditional music, dance, storytelling and costumes in a colourful celebration of Ghanaian culture.
At the end of the night, Sessinam of the Volta Region emerged as the Star Performer, while Tiwaa of the Western North region and Ohenewaa of the Eastern region also took home major honours.
Sessinam’s performance took viewers into the rich musical heritage of the Volta Region, highlighting traditional forms such as Agbadza, Borborbor and Zigi.
She also brought to life Atiblaga, a feminine victorious dance symbolising courage, bravery, strength and the spirit of the ancestors.
Her commanding performance earned her the Star Performer award, adding another major highlight to her GMB journey.
Tiwaa of the Western North region also had a memorable night after winning the Best Costume award.
She competed in the category alongside Lamiley, Besiwaa, Basi and Sessinam.
Her presentation explored the cultural traditions of the Sefwi people, highlighting the royal Kete, sacred Abodan and Bosoe, a satirical tradition that uses humour and song to inspire moral change.
She also traced the influence of these traditional rhythms on contemporary Highlife.
Eastern region’s Ohenewaa was another major winner on the night after she was adjudged Most Eloquent.
Ohenewaa took viewers into the world of the Yilo Krobo people of Somanya through Klama, the sacred folk music and dance associated with the Dipo rite of passage.
Using traditional attire, beadwork, the fau and live music, she explored the meaning and origins of the cultural expression before connecting it to the legacy of Highlife from the Eastern Region.
She beat Nana Konadu, Ampomaa and Sessinam to win the award.
The performances were assessed by judges Nana Adwoa Awindor, Dr Terry Bright and Dr Sarah Dorgbadzi.
With another memorable cultural night wrapped up, attention now shifts to the remaining contestants as the competition enters another crucial stage.
